Recent Change in Education System

The Union Cabinet of India has already approved the new National Education Policy. As per the latest NEP, the main purpose of the education system is to develop everyone’s creative potential. To survive in this ever-changing world, individuals must be self-confident, self-knowledged, cooperative, and integrative. And the National Education Policy is surely made for individuals so that they can survive easily and help the nation grow.

Now, the 10+2 curricular structure of the school is to be replaced by a 5+3+3+4 structure of curricula. School education is divided into ages 3-8, 8-11, 11-14, and 14-18 years. According to the National Education Policy, there will be 12 years of schooling along with three years of pre-schooling or Anganwadi. Before knowing the NEP’s impact on school education, let’s first understand NEP.

What is NEP?

National Education Policy is simply the structure for the country’s new Education System. The policy includes elementary to higher education along with vocational training for both urban and rural areas. The main aim of NEP is to transform the country’s education system by the year 2040.  Everything needs to be upgraded after some time, and the same goes for Education. With the updated education structure for schools and higher levels, students will be well skilled and knowledgeable.

There will be stages for school education, i.e., Foundational, Preparatory, Middle, and Secondary stage. Below are the points about NEP’s impact on school education. Have a look-

School education after NEP – Curricular Structure

Foundation Stage –

• Age 3 – 6: 3 years; Anganwadi/pre-school/Balvatika

• Age 6 – 8: 2 years; Class 1 and 2 

Preparatory Stage –

• Age – 11: Class 3 to 5

Middle Stage –

• Age 11 – 14: Class 6 to 8

Secondary Stage –

• Age 14 – 18: Class 14 to 18

NEP impact on school education

What will be the NEP impact on school education? Students, Parents, and even teachers, everyone will be affected. Besides skills and knowledge, students will also be able to learn their mother tongue/regional/local language until class 5th. This will provide a good chance to learn local dialects. 

Also, students can mix-match their subjects for learning. For example, students can choose Physics along with Geography. In addition, a new National Assessment Centre called Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development (PAREKH) will be setting up for continuous evaluation.
