How 14-year-old boy in joy teaching a underprivileged in Assam

“From early years of my life, I always had the vision to be useful as a person who can contribute towards the society in my humble ways. So, I joined ECDF Youth Squad ((Early Child Development Forum an initiative of DNAcharya Foundation was founded in 2019) as a volunteer and give some quality time to underprivileged children of village Habigoan, Assam.

My mother, a versatile, proactive and a very talented person, always motivated me to contribute to social causes. When she brought an opportunity to volunteer for ECDF, I was more than happy to be associated with the Youth Wing of the forum with the literacy skill development program.

When I first heard about my task of teaching these little ones, I was very excited as everything seemed dreamy but I never thought the ground realities will be so different. The acceptance by the students was a hard row to hoe. They didn’t like me at all, for them my clothes were very expensive, I can talk in English, I was born with a silver spoon and once and for all I wasn’t one of them. As just a 14-year-old boy it was difficult to tell them that I really wanted to help. But I learnt not to give up, so I thought to build a connection by playing with them, become their friends first and take the next leap later. Consequently, I developed a good rapport and started teaching. In the beginning, I was a little shaky and nervous when I stood in front of them with a whiteboard and marker pen however, at the same time a strange sense of confidence came about when I started.

The interaction and classes happen on weekends; therefore, I find time to accommodate. And I feel that if there is a will, a way definitely surfaces.

I would like to keep my association with this cause for a long and contribute in small ways. Once ECDF could raise funding it gave me a lot of satisfaction as this will continue and additional money will be utilised to buy their study materials. I hope I can contribute more and more to society with such actions.

My ideal in life is Mohammad Ali the reason being his sheer will, dedication and perseverance to be the G.O.A.T (Greatest of All-Time). He overcame all his obstacles in life to get this title. However, he was criticised and disrespected even after he got gold medals for his country.

I truly believe in the quote

Never be hesitant to make a statement if you believe that you can back it up with your actions.”
