Have you ever struggled with the complexities of taxation? Don’t worry, your children will not.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has taken an initiative to introduce the teaching games in schools to spread tax literacy through the “Learn by Play” approach. Now students will learn beyond the tax-based books, workshops, and awareness seminars.
The innovation injected by CBDT to enhance tax literacy is backed by board games, puzzles, and comics to teach high school students about taxation which is indeed a difficult subject.
If we go into the roots, we will see the financial path of a human being begins in childhood, when his parents give him money to eat something from the cafeteria in school.
And that is the perfect time for youngsters to be taught about finance and taxes. Today’s youngsters are the future; if someone joins the public or private sector, someone will become an entrepreneur, and somewhere, everyone will be a taxpayer. If children are given accurate tax information from the start, they will be aware of the tax and will spread awareness in the right direction.
To conclude this, in a recent event “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled a set of communication and outreach tools targeted at raising financial and tax literacy among the schools in the Iconic Week Closing Ceremony in Panaji Goa.
According to her, the next 25 years are “Amrit Kaal”, and in those upcoming years, youth will play a key role in moulding India’s future. Even Sitharaman also handed out the first sets of those taxation games to a few of the kids in attendance.
When seen globally, governments are striving in every manner to raise the tax morale of the people, and the younger generation is being targeted more and more.
The upcoming Tax Literacy campaign by the CBDT is a significant step in promoting the Taxpayer Education Program. The goal is to raise young people’s tax awareness and morale throughout sensitive phases of secondary and higher school, before the upcoming generation.
The ultimate goal is to boost the future taxpayer knowledge, it will not only foster the individual’s thinking about taxes but also be a cost-effective step to increase taxpayer’s compliance
